Welcome to the homepage of the Sailing Yacht Gryphon, a 30' sloop built in 1974 by C&C Yachts. This boat has plied the waters of Atlantic Canada for most of its life. Below are a few pictures of the sailboat on the St. John River and out in the Bay of Fundy off the coast of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The Gryphon was purchased in the early spring of 2003 and underwent major upgrades. The electrical system and Electronic Navigational Systems were replaced completely. Mechanical systems were upgraded and the wood work was redone. The boat is a project between 3 generations of a family. Grandfather, Father and Son worked on the boat on weekends until it's launch, July 2003, in St. Andrews, NB. Later, the vessel was sailed to it's new home at the Fredericton Yacht Club.

Over 800 C&C 30 MK I's were constructed with production beginning for the MK I in 1973 and the last produced in 1985. This was the longest production and most popular of C&C history. This design of the C&C line was deemed to be the finest for Racing/Cruising.

Heading up the Bay of Fundy from St. Andrews for Dipper Harbour, NB (July 2003). The Lepreau Light off in the distance as the sun sets on the horizon. The Lepreau Light is located at Lat. 45° 03.520' N / Lo. 66° 27.521' W (CHS Chart 411601) and is located on the property of the Point Lepreau Nuclear Power Generating Station. The Lepreau light was first built in 1831 and reconstructed in 1900 then again to the existing tower in 1959. Light Characteristics are Fl5s 26m 16M Fog Sig(3) 60s.

Typical Bay of Fundy weather (FOG): Crossing the Bay from Brier Island, NS to Saint John, NB (August 2004). An old Nova Scotia sailor once put it like this: "Sometimes out on the Bay of Fundy when the fog comes in thick, you can sit on the boat's rail and lean you back agin' it. So that's pretty thick fog out there. But you gotta be careful 'cause if the fog lifts quick, you'll fall overboard."

The Saint John River provides an inland water route from Saint John to Fredericton (known as the Rhine of North America). The trip to Fredericton from the bay is about 70 nautical miles and some of the most beautiful cruising within New Brunswick.
